Guns of Flatwater....

I am surprsised that nobody has started a thread/discussion on some of the more interesting guns seen and shot at the Flatwater. There were alot and I mean alot of very nice, very interesting, and sometimes puzzling guns in attendance. I would like to thank Mr. Berck for making the trip to the shoot and taking the time to pack up some interesting guns and bringing them along for anybody and everybody to fondle, handle, and shoot. One thing that has always amazed me about the Flatwater is how the guys will lay their guns on the tables and let anyone who's interested handle them. The guns range from plain jane single shots to best grade self-openers, and every single one them is as interesting as the next..regardless of value or pedigree.

My favorite guns of the shoot would be these:

1) Mr. Gandolfos Lancaster Model A...better known as the "Wrist Breaker"
2) Jims Piotti BSEE
3) Mr. Bercks American Arms of Boston swing-opener
4) Mr. Moodys Stainless barreled Model 12
5) Jims 2 barrel set Dickson Round action
6) Mr. Goldsteins Baker
7) Mr. Andersons Cole Custom Beretta
8) Rocky's Darne
9) Mr. Bercks Pape Hammer gun (did you see those hammers!)
10) Larry Swansons wall hanger Savage/Stevens Pump gun :D (if you didnt notice it, next time take it off the wall and go over it good, its actually an amazing shotgun!)

Honorable mention would go to Mr. Amos's awesome J. Woodward hammergun and an even more interesting J. Woodward boxlock built on patent Webley Screw Grip action...it was all Woodward though, fine engaving and Woodward signature grip...the true "prince of wales" grip, complete with proper fitted grip cap. Neat gun!!

My favourites were the round-action Dickson and the Woodward o/u I really liked those.
Sure has been quiet on Flaytwater, it's been a whole week now.

Flatwater isn't long enough to have a chance to visit with everyone and see all the guns. I liked the damascus under lever hammer gun that Diego showed.

Lotsa fun guns as always at Flatwater!

I had a blast shooting Ol' Ben's Husquvarna hammer gun...what a surprisingly tight and fast handling 12 ga.!! Just a ton 'o fun to shoot!

Rocky's Darne was also fun...what a different kind of gun!

Plus, who could forget shots at that TOUGH "long pass through the trees" shot using Brent's Browning Double Auto. Good stuff, indeed!!

As always, gents, thanks for letting me pop a few rounds through your shotguns...a big part of the fun at Flatwater is getting to try such a great assortment of guns.

Also...Milton...that model 21 you have is a beauty!! If I'd had my slip-on pad to lengthen the pull a bit for my ol' long "monkey arms" I might have shot it better...at least that is my excuse. It sure was not the fault of that beautiful gun!!

Bob Eqbert's Cosmi - that reminded me of looking at a Ferrai engine, man oh man was that some slick machining !

Mr. Goldstein's Remington 1900 was a nice a handling gun as I have ever picked up.

Don Carlito's 20 Ga. Berreta was nice also, really nice.

The Ideal with Lunette Trigger guard, I believe that was Ross's gun.

The little Model 12 20 Gauge, Ol Cowboy freed from the grips of Cobwebs.


However, more import that the guns, were the people I met.

There were indeed a lot of interesting shotguns, and not all were SxS's...

I had never seen or handled a Winchester Model 40 semi-auto before OLE COWBOY uncased a nice one.

Likewise Bob Egbert's COSMI.

Jerry, next year at Flatwater, all of the "In Crowd" will be shooting Model 40 Winchesters, I was suppose to bring mine, but disaster struck. :D

Two notables were Bruce's C grade Parker with Bernard barrels and Dustin's hammer gun with the Purdey no 2 patent thumbhole opener (don't remember the maker). I understand there was a great Purdey hammer pigeon gun that I did not get to see, but wanted to. There were a whole bunch of other interesting guns. My favorite is my next one, whatever it may be. :D

The Purdey pigeon hammer gun was an awesome piece to contemplate, the Cosmi begged to be disassembled and understood, as stated one weekend is NOT enough to get to know either the guns or the participants and I'm overwhelmed each year.

Threaten to take my birthday if I didn't choose, and I'd take JimH's Dickson set. Even the dogs would concur with that decision.

I'm a gun slut. I'll shoot whatever is handed to me and enjoy the experience. I'll add Dustin's Zoli, Larry's Ithaca Repro, Diego's Boss, and Dustin's (Oops - Bob's) Webley to the list. Plus, the fine Parkers, Remington's, Winchester's, Piotti, etc., etc. Great guns all.

I got to shoot a target with a Hammer Gun,and I was on the course.First for me.And then I got to handle a 21 that really liked me. :D
