Can't even use the excuse that I'd been drinking.
I believe you are right, as both stories were already legend when I arrived for the first time at Flatwater II. That all happened at the first Flatwater.

I may have missed the flesh eater, but I was at Flat II (my first) and witnessed the flying snap caps. One of them hit the forearm of one of the guns on the table and put a small ding in it (I was within 15" of the impact zone). Doug was very gracious about it, but I think he even mentioned the name of his smith who could fix it.landed right in the middle of one of Doug's tables

You did. You hit the #2 gun of a pair of Purdey 20s.Larry Brown wrote:I think I missed the first one myself.

This will be a Fifth of Flatwater!
Larry,
According to the pictures, you were at the first flatwater and have been at all of them since.
I have some pictures of the first Flatwater from JJE and my own pictures of all the rest. From the pix I would say that the following have been at every Flatwater shoot;
Scott (The committee) Hincker
Steve Voss
Larry Swanson
Larry Brown
Bob Egbert
Bill Layman
KGB
and of course there are a number of Larry Swanson's support staff that have made all of them.

Year one was a wet one. That was the year I demonstrated that the sidelock gun with hand detachable locks is the ultimate rain gun. I broke down the Grulla, popped off the locks, had at it with the thoughtfully provided paper towels and had the gun dry, inside and out, in minutes. Awesome!!
