Flatwater Initiation

#1 Post by Pancho McTavish »

Some of you who have never made the journey may have wondered what your first Flatwater experience would be like. This year I was able to film the secret initiation ceremony and the major task required of the newbies. This is George "Tripod" Schwantz, a vintage Flatwater veteran, demonstrating the requirements with perfect form before the new fellows get their turn. No whusses now.......we've all been there and done that and are none the worse for the wear. You new guys can bring your own stick.

I was shooting some clays when it was his turn and didn't get it on film. Sorry.....it apparently would have been good. Some said he took twelve wraps!

After he did the shot with a toplever gun and got a forehead recoil indentation, he would only repeat the shot for the cameras with a topleverless gun. I handed him my Manufrance and he did the shot with Fourtrax and Bruce Day filming. Someone then offered a hammergun, but he declined. Hoping one of them will post it.

Not sure anyone at Flatwater has ever been skinny enough to emulate that individual for the initiation anyway. Amazing what these foreign folks will do for fun. I'm still wincing at the thought...

Eye bleach... pass the eye bleach, please...
We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron. H.L. Mencken - 1920

The lesser of two evils is still evil.
